Training is DONE! I repeat, DONE! I can’t say much about what I learned since that is all super secret stuff, but I can say that it was very challenging and motivated me to re-evaluate myself as a teacher. I want to do well, and this week has helped me to feel like I might be able to do it. Of course, that was after a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Or something similar.
Today, on the other hand, was amazing. It was laid back and I got to hear all about my placement, car, and housing. I got super lucky. My housing is in Koga-shi, which is about 20 minutes by car from Sakai-machi, but only 5 minutes from the train that goes straight into Tokyo. It’s fantastic. I will be there all the time. In fact, I hear there was this annual, all night art festival that happens in Roppongi that is kind of a big deal. Problem is, it lasts all night and I have to be back to Narita by 7:30am to go to Koga. Sadly, I might have to wait until next year to attend.
Some of my fun during this week included walking to 7-11 and exploring all it’s wonders (one of them is pictured below), and goofing off in the lobby of the Hotel or the food court in the airport. Basically, there is not a whole lot in Narita.
In other news, I met a ton of amazing people (hello if you are a new friend, stopping by!) and most importantly I had an amazing roommate who I got along with supremely well! She is in my branch and we are already joined at the hip. Lots of plans in store for exploring Tokyo and the whole of Japan. Aside from training, it’s mostly been study and talking to new, interesting people from all backgrounds. I’ve even picked up a touch of a British accent. Not sure if that’s good or bad 😛
Tomorrow I move to Sakai, get set up and in my tiny apartment and start to enjoy Koga. I even got lucky and my car gets dropped off at dinner-time on Monday. Things couldn’t have gone better for me. Lots of great ALTs in Koga, to boot. The only thing left to be nervous about is my first day of school.
Anyways, in an effort to keep this short, I’ll save more for later. In the meantime, I hope everyone is well and I’ll be sure to post more next week in my downtime before work begins on the 6th of April!
